Schoof Maritime Advisory

Why SMA?
making the difference
SMA´s owner has held numerous leadership positions with a very relevant mix of company backgrounds: maritime/transport consultancy firms (Frederic R. Harris and Tebodin/Billfinger), a port authority (Rotterdam), a global terminal operator (APM Terminals) and shipping lines (NYK Line and ONE). This combination of experiences forms the perfect pallet to approach maritime-related projects holistically and with different points of view. SMA represents a 35 years’ front line working experience in the sector itself and SMA’s involvement will be game-changing.
BROAD WORK EXPERIENCE
IN MARITIME BUSINESS
PRAISED FOR LEADERSHIP
During his entire working experience, SMA´s owner showed to be an emphatic leader with excellent communication skills while applying superb stakeholder management. His very result-oriented and cross-functional approach has always resulted in reaching his (read: company's) targets. He has been instrumental and successful in closing terminal investment deals while being on the Board of the same. As lead negotiator in numerous terminal contracts with values of over USD 100s million, SMA´s owner has been able to close deals favourably due to his persistence, agility, focus and balancing out the 'giving and taking' principle.
The challenge for many consultants and advisers is to gather true and updated insights from the maritime industries on the one hand, and to explain complicated matters in a simple and understandable manner on the other. SMA’s experience with one of the biggest consultancy firms in the Netherlands ensures crisp, clear and compelling presentations and hands-on advice to the customer for improved business results. SMA is the right partner to handle complex business issues, solve challenging or pertaining company problems and ensure successful delivery of results.
CRISP AND CLEAR ADVICE
GIANT NETWORK
IN MARITIME INDUSTRY
The engagement at Board and C-level with many shipping lines and basically all terminal operators and most port authorities worldwide, gave SMA´s owner the ability to ‘see-and-compare’ the different strategies, cost management approach, organisational set ups, customer’s mindsets, investment decisions and eventual successes (or not). SMA´s owner has had the privilege to build up a giant network of contacts which allows him to gather latest information and trends in the industry which are indispensable for proper advise. High level executives can be contacted to explore their interest to build a partnership in new developments or investments. SMA has also access to a network of specific experts that can provide specialised input where needed and thus create a Dream Team to execute multi-disciplinary assignments.
TRAVELLED WELL
AROUND THE GLOBE
During his career SMA´s owner has been privileged to visit probably 55% of all container ports in the world and has therefore gathered an overwhelming insight into each of their respective competitive strengths and weaknesses. It allowed him to clearly understand developments that went well and those initiatives that were less successful. Combined with his strong emphatic capabilities and cross-cultural skills, he will be able to connect quickly and thus get parties' buy-in relatively easy. Arthur lived 12 years in Asia.
